Ca firewall vista start

Does that help? I run Services. When I try to start the service, I get the error: Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on local computer. For more information view the System Event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code, 5. I have looked in the system event log but the System Log in Windows Logs in Event Viewer gives me the error: Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.

Verify that the Event Log service is running. The data is invalid Thanks, Jared. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.

Thanks, Jared Have you tried the good old fashioned down to earth method This problem can occur if the account that is used to start the Windows Firewall service does not have permissions to access the related registry entries.

Also, if you can fire up the services control panel, what are the settings on the log-on and recovery tabs? Recovery: First Failure- Restart Service 2nd - Restart Service Susequent - Take no action Fail count reset every day, and the delay between failure restarts is 2 minutes. The "Enable actions for stopes with errors. This is rather strange.

I'll ask around and see if anyone can think of other things to check. That way we could eliminate the firewall as the source of the problem, methinks. Furthermore, what password goes in those boxes?

I never entered one, so do not know what it is, and could it be possible that a virus adjusted just the password field? Might you have any restore points you can go back to?

I haven't tried this in Vista, but in older versions of Windows, if you ran the setup cd again, you got a repair option that might put things back into order. Since Windows Firewall is part of the OS, you can't really just re-install just that service.

Anything in the audit logs ie eventvwr about this services actually starting early during the boot sequence? One of the guys I work with was curious as to whether the service was crashing before you even got to log on, thus using up the crashes per boot quota.

My computer was turned off for about 5 hours before this In the last 7 days these errors have repeated 15 times and 14 times respectively. One of them seems a bit familiar. The other one says "The following boot-start or system-start driver s failed to load: iprt" I also have a print error, but it is probably because my printer is turned off, and an error from source LSM that reads "Terminal Service start failed.

The relevant status code was The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Error The printer cannot be used by others on the network. On a side note, I'm going away for 5 weeks as of saturday so I may be idle for a while. Thanks Mr. Windows Registry Editor Version 5. The vista computer in question is a member of a Windows domain.

I tried the following actions rebooting after each : 1 net winsock reset from a command prompt. While both commands completed without problems, the firewall service was not fixed.

I then removed the computer from the domain. The firewall service then started successfully. I then re-added the computer to the domain.

The firewall service continued to start successfully. Thanks, Aran. I received an error message at the completion of the installation that I ignored--not understanding its meaning. I tried using the program which worked the first time I tried it. During my second use of the program within the same instance, my computer did a memory dump followed by a reboot.

I caught the end of the reboot as I was elsewhere when the memory dump occured. Upon reboot, I received notice that Windows had discovered new hardware and was trying unsuccessfully to find a driver for it. I also got the warning that Windows Firewall was not started. This "new hardware" was listed as an unknown device in Device Manager. I uninstalled the device and restarted my computer. It again tried to install the device--failing to find drivers for it. I chose the option to ignore installation on future attempts.

I've read this thread following step by step--as this is the only thread I have discovered on the Internet that exactly matches my symptoms and issues. I've also restored my system to a point prior to the installation of the DVD ripping software. This didn't fix the Firewall issue. I've used several Registry Cleaning tools to no avail.

I've since tried to use a "Vista approved" DVD ripping program, but it locks up during the ripping process. I don't know if this issue is related to the Firewall issue, but I suspect that it is.

If anyone has had success with correcting this issue I could certainly benefit from your experiences. Thank you, -Mark -- Mister Whiskers. I've been reading this thread with great interest as this situation has recently happened to me. I've tried everything mentioned here and other fixes from elsewhere and nothings working, but this seems like a good place to register and get good solid help. The problem started when I installed Comodo V3, decided I wasnt happy with it and uninstalled it, well that was a barrel of laughs and took about 3 days to finally get it completely out of my system.

But ever since then the firewall won't start. The only difference is instead of a service specific error 5, I get a
