Sturdy bird game

To play a bird card, you must put it in the correct habitat and pay its food requirements. Some birds will only nest in one of the habitats, others are more flexible, and a few even flit from habitat to habitat throughout play. Bird cards come in four main varieties, each providing a different sort of effect.

You then move your cube leftward across the row, triggering every special ability you pass along the way. With so many good things going for it, I was surprised that I felt a bit let down by my first play of Wingspan.

My favorite part of engine-building games is the sense of accomplishment you feel when you piece together a particularly clever point-generating machine, with parts that feed into each other and explode in combos that shower you with well-earned rewards.

Running your engines also feels pretty plug-and-play—slot in some cards and watch as they give you free stuff. You can specialize and dig out combos, but you can also just throw cards out there and watch your rewards roll in. None of this is a bad thing, of course. Early comparisons to other games skewed my expectations a bit, but when I recalibrated and played the game for what it is, I really fell in love with it.

Gaming vets will probably school newbies, but everyone can build something to take pride in. Like Viticulture , another Stonemaier game, Wingspan asks you to roll with the punches. The game gives you tools to mitigate some of this randomness—rev up your card-draw or resource-gathering engines to dig for what you need, for example—but players who want to decide on a strategy at the start of the game and stick to it inflexibly are likely to have a bad time.

The key is to react quickly to what the game throws at you. Flocking birds have a similar tucking mechanic, while mockingbirds let you copy the power of another card. Vultures get to grab a food resource when someone else makes a predator kill on their turn. We play it with them and the balance gets trickier as we get older! It's a great family game for all ages.

My first time ordering and was absolutely delighted with every one of the toys I purchased for Christmas!! We purchased this game to help our 7 year old with his balance and coordination. It has been a fun way to work on these skills, and he enjoys having the whole family play. Good active game for whole family, a break from sitting at the table playing a board game. Although 5 year olds love this, it is important to note the game requires some adult supervision. However the children loved playing!

With virtual learning starting soon as we also enter the colder part of the year in our climate, we bought this so that our 6 year old son would have more options for indoor movement. The game seems simple at first, especially if your child does yoga and has pretty good balance, but it quickly increases in difficulty with added elements of balancing the seed bag on different parts of the body, flapping your arms and resisting the distraction of the other players!

We laughed a lot playing this game! Our very active 4 year old grandson plays with this with his folks everyday. He gets so excited! It's a winner. I am using this product in my play therapy practice and it has been a big hit among my clients!

I highly recommend it. Sturdy Birdy was a birthday gift for my 4-year-old grandson. We were with relatives over the 4th of July and my 4 grandkids played it together once, as that was all we had time for. They enjoyed it at first, but eventually, the two 4-year-olds lost interest in it and went to do something else.

The birthday boy lives in Texas and we were all visiting in Tennessee, so I don't know how much it has been played since he returned home to Texas after the holiday. It was abit confusing to decifer the instructions and it did not really tell you where the place the bird seed bag. An adult definitely has to interpret the instructions. It is an okay game but would not recommend highly. Great game for grandparents and grandkids.
