When I tried to shrink my C drive, the primary partition and Vista installation drive it didnt allow me to reduce the size of C below its half value. I think you got my point. I have a gb disk, gb free but vista does not indicate any space to shrink.

It "deletes" the old partition in the partition table, and creates a new entry for the partition in the new location. In a way, it's the same procedure just in a different order. This becomes free space in the extended partition which can be used to create new logical drives to the right of G:. It is not unallocated space. Also, Disk Management will not allow you to resize an extended partition while there are logical drives in it. I'm not sure if diskpart will, but here again, the best way to move or resize the extended partition and it's logical drives is the same -- backup data, delete, re-create, restore data.
It's possible to have raw, uncompressed video but it's rare and takes up loads of space. Special video algorithms are used to compress video files and the more general kind of compression algorithms used by backup software are unlikely to reduce the size.
Some compression software becomes inefficient when dealing with compressed data. Basically, there is no need to compress video files if backing them up.
